Finding Confidence in Your Own Creative Voice
Elephant and Parrot are painting a beautiful picture on a large rock in the forest. Parrot's lines are neat, his colors stay inside the shapes, and everything looks exactly as he imagined. Elephant, on the other hand, can't seem to draw a straight line with her trunk. Her trees are crooked, her flowers are enormous, and her river looks more like a giant squiggle. The more she compares her painting to Parrot's, the less she wants to continue. Maybe she's just not very good at painting after all.
My Lines Are Supposed to Wiggle! explores the journey from self-doubt to self-belief as Elephant begins to see her artwork differently. When Parrot notices how beautifully her swirling lines capture the movement of the river and the wind, Elephant realizes that her picture doesn't need to look like anyone else's. What she once thought were mistakes turn out to be the very things that make her creation special.
Celebrating imagination, individuality, and the freedom to express yourself, this story reminds children that confidence doesn't come from being the best or doing everything perfectly. By exploring creativity without comparison, young readers are encouraged to recognize their own strengths, appreciate different abilities, and take pride in what makes their ideas uniquely theirs.
